What is EMC Equip?

A Conference-wide gathering designed to encourage and equip the church for faithful service in today’s culture.

What is the focus?

Helping the church hear, learn, and live the gospel.

EMC Equip 2026 will explore how the church can communicate the gospel in ways that people can hear, remember, and put into practice. Drawing from Scripture, teaching, learning, and the way God has created us, this theme invites us to think more intentionally about how people pay attention, retain what they hear, and grow in faithful service.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Chris Mattatall

Dr. Mattatall is Associate Professor of Educational Psychology and Inclusion in the Faculty of Education at the University of Lethbridge. He served as the University of Lethbridge Board of Governors Teaching Chair from 2023 to 2025 and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in education.

Chris speaks nationally and internationally on topics related to the Science of Learning, including how the brain learns and develops, motivation and engagement, and teaching and learning strategies that help direct attention, strengthen memory, and build self-regulation. He also leads parent workshops across Canada on how children and teenagers learn and develop, including the effects of social media and screen time on the human brain.

His work connects directly with the theme of EMC Equip 2026: helping the church hear, learn, and live the gospel. With more than 30 years of experience as a teacher, administrator, researcher, and educational leader, Chris brings a practical and research-informed approach to questions of teaching, discipleship, communication, and formation.

Chris holds a PhD in Cognitive Studies from Queen’s University, an MEd in Learning Disabilities from the University of New Brunswick, a BEd in Secondary Studies from the University of New Brunswick, and a BA in Religious Studies from Kingswood University.

  • EMC Equip 2026 will be at the Steinbach EMC church in Steinbach, Manitoba.

    Directions

  • Equip is for you!

    EMC Equip is for the whole EMC family. General sessions will aim to inspire and encourage you, and workshops will provide training and resources for various areas of ministry.

  • Registration will be available in late summer, 2026.

  • Equip registrations must be in by Monday, October 19.

  • The Friday evening worship session is free for all.

    The fee for the Saturday portion of EMC Equip is $35. This helps to cover the cost of the event.

  • The purpose of this event is to gather regionally, so we will not be live streaming any portions. Though it is a regional event, anyone who would like to travel to Manitoba is welcome to join us!

  • We will provide the link for hotel rooms closer to the event date.

  • Lunch and coffee breaks will be provided for attendees on Saturday.
